About Karen Faire
Picasso said that "Painting is just another way of keeping a diary." For Karen, this is true. What you are seeing is a partial glimpse of her life's journey.
Karen Faire is an author and an award winning artist living in Fairhope, Alabama with Shane, her husband of 33 years.
Before their marriage, she worked in the custom automotive industry painting airbrush murals on vans, cars, boats, motorcycles, and "anything that moved." She fell in love with color and had an epiphany: " thought that the only way to improve the color that I was working with would be to have light coming through it." She knew immediately what her next medium would be: glass!
She apprenticed in a company that made reproductions of Tiffany lamps. She says,"Tiffany taught me about flowers. The flowers that inspired the lamps were completely unknown to me."Thus, the seeds for the future gardener were planted.
It was while working in an art glass business that she met her husband, who also owned an architectural art glass business. Their marriage was a comprehensive wedding of their various gifts. She says, "The skills that were my weakest were my husband's strongest gifts, and where he was lacking I excelled."They went on to become of one of southern California's most sought out architectural art glass firms.
It was during this time that Karen's love for painting was renewed. Using watercolor in the business for design presentation had become increasingly enjoyable. With the birth of their son, Loren, she wanted to turn her energies into something lasting, something that was personal and would be an inheritance for their beloved son. What she found was a way to express herself without the pressures of commissions that the business demanded of her.
These are a result of those efforts.
Karen is equally nimble with a variety of mediums and has a hard time choosing which she likes best. "They all have their merits and weaknesses and leave lots of room for exploration."She chooses the medium that she thinks is best for each subject.
Karen's faith is evident in her newest works which focus on traditional Jewish liturgy, Scripture, words and prayers, something that is central to her being.
Viewed together, one cannot help but feel a sense of the joy that went into these labors of love.
She is very excited about sharing these works with you and having them available in print.
